These are by no means "notes" about what happened in Sunday School yesterday. I just wanted to open this up for any thoughts and such. Cause I have a big one...

We were talking about "God the Provider" at one point yesterday and I think we were supposed to pray in thanksgiving about how God is our provider, protector & shepherd (or something like that).

Anyhow - everyone knows about the flooding from this weekend. Tons of basements and such were flooded, sewers backed up, etc. - messy business for a lot of folks.
Well - you all also know that I've been having a rough couple of weeks. Understandably so.

Well, Monday evening - the Longworth basement started to flood. A toilet was running while the shower was on and the sewer was backing up. Yikes. Luckily, Bill was in the basement when it started and we were able to shut off all of the running water and bail out. We called the plumbers who turned out to be complete morons and didn't know anything about ... well...plumbing it seems. They were here for 3 hours and accomplished nothing. They told Bill that they would call it a night (being near midnight at this point) and come back in the morning.
Luckily, they didn't come back!
On Tuesday, I called a REAL plumbing company and got on their schedule for the day.

In the meantime, I am outside the house and our sweet neighbor is in her yard too. We end up talking and I tell her about our basement problem. She runs back into her house and brings back the phone number for LexCall. You can call the city to come out and fix sewer backups! Well, we certainly didn't know that! Called the city and those folks came out in a timely manner - investigated the situation and ended up taking care of it that day. (Needless to say I cancelled the other plumber when I found out I could have this done for free -- we didn't know -- so now you do!)

Whew. We were glad that was taken care of -- now we are faced with a decision about our big tree and its roots, but we'll save that for another time. Anyhow -- on Tuesday our sewer blockage was taken care of.

Friday - the rains came. Friday the basements and sewers across the area had problems. Friday night I lay awake (as usual, I'm very much an insomniac) wondering if our basement and porch are getting soaked. Finally, I get up to check. Water is blowing in the screens on the porch, but it's not bad.
The basement...DRY! Completely dry! Whoo whoo!

Sunday after church, I came home and sat down with the newspaper to hear that the city sewer folks (who had come out to our house on Tuesday) were SWAMPED over the weekend. WOW!
And I sit back and wonder - WHY ME GOD? Why the Longworths? Why am I favored in your eyes that you would back up our sewer earlier in the week? It is an overwhelming thought to which I do not have the answer. Why not the other homes in town?

When people ask me about how I got such good kids (or whatever) - I tell them that God does not give you more than you can handle. He knows that Jennifer can't handle much. (Ask Bill and Cassie -- I'll explain more another time).

Well, that's all I really had to say.
I just wanted to share my praise with all of you. If your basement was one of those that was flooded, I'm sorry. I hope nothing was damaged and if it was - I hope the insurance will cover it and it will turn into a blessing.

Blessings
